The Buddhist Village Trust for Sri Lanka (B.V.T.S.) is a registered charity based in the U.K.  It was formed by a group of volunteers in 1992, which were concerned about the plight of impoverished villagers in the war torn areas in the North and East of Sri Lanka.

The primary aim of B.V.T.S. is to help these villagers with their disrupted lives and help them return to their lands and livelihood as far as possible. We achieve this without giving handouts; all projects are based on self-help schemes on a village or community basis, in which they work towards a sustainable development.

THE WAY B.V.T.S. WORKS

  • All work is done on a voluntary basis, therefore administrative costs are kept to a minimum and the rest of the costs are borne by the committee members.
  • Committee members at their own expense personally visit the selected project areas.
  • Implemented projects are then supervised/ monitored by our link organisation based in Sri Lanka.
  • The projects are revisited annually to evaluate their impact and assess the need for further work to be done.
